About Us > From the chairperson

We are indeed living in interesting times. Our constitutional dispensation is no longer in infancy and the ruling party has been at the helm for more than a decade. Liberation philosophies no longer apply and our outcomes are now dependant on true leadership and sound management skills. If we are to survive in the turbulent waters of the international markets, especially now where securitisation is threatening not only the US housing finance market but also emerging markets where securitisation has been promoted, we need to ensure that our fundamentals are in place: a robust economy with appropriately regulated financial systems, a stable land tenure system and, above all, the rule of law.

Formed in 1943, the Johannesburg Attorneys Association has a proud history and it plays a vital role in the legal profession. The JAA has always focused on service, representing the interests of attorneys practicing within our area. Always open to all races and both genders, the JAA has never been afraid of standing up for the rights of our members. We have fearlessly represented our constituency on every conceivable forum, our sub-committees covering almost every field of law. We provide valuable services to the public and our newsletters, website and other communication tools aim to update and inform our members.
We see the JAA as the voice of the profession in Johannesburg, the engine room of the SA economy. We render our services without remuneration of any kind and we are accountable only to our members.
The JAA will continue to do whatever it can to ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
Willem van Rensburg (Chairperson)
